About Sung Sot Cave
Sung Sot Cave is located on Bo Hon Island, along with Luon Cave, Trinh Nu Cave, and Trong Cave, in the center of Ha Long Bay. In 1901, a French scientist visited and named the cave “Grotte de la surprise,” meaning the cave of surprises, due to its breathtaking natural beauty.
It was not until 40 years after its discovery that Sung Sot Cave became widely known, and in 1993, it welcomed its first tourists. This is one of the largest and most beautiful caves in Ha Long Bay.
Sung Sot Cave
Legend has it that after defeating the Yin invaders, Saint Giong flew to heaven, leaving behind a sword and a precious horse to protect the villagers. Sung Sot Cave is said to hold the traces of that ancient battle, with small ponds representing the horse’s footprints.
Exploring the Wonders of Sung Sot Cave
Ha Long offers countless attractions, but a visit to Sung Sot Cave will leave an unforgettable impression. Inside the cave, there is an 800-meter-long stone path with streetlights on both sides, elegantly illuminating the way and enhancing the cave’s beauty.
The cave is divided into two main chambers. The first chamber is like a grand opera house with a velvet-covered ceiling. Visitors will be overwhelmed by the brilliant lights within the cave. This chamber also features many stone statues in various shapes resembling elephants and seals.
Outside Sung Sot Cave
Visitors must pass through a narrow path to reach the second chamber. While the first chamber is grand with electric lighting, this chamber gives a novel, ancient feel. The combination of stone artifacts adds to the cave’s uniqueness, with formations reminiscent of the legend of Saint Giong, such as horses and swords. The second chamber is spacious, capable of holding thousands of people at once.
Continuing further, you will reach the garden at the cave’s highest point, offering a picturesque landscape with a small pond, various plants, flowers, and wildlife.
