Besides being a popular spot for outdoor activities, this mountain is also a famous historical site. Originally named Truyen Dang, it was renamed Bai Tho (Poem Mountain) after King Le Thanh Tong inscribed a poem on its rock face during a patrol. Today, visitors can still see the poem written by the king.
The Journey to Conquer Bai Tho Mountain
To find the hiking trail, you can start from the alley next to Long Tien Pagoda or go to the intersection of Hang Noi and Le Thanh Tong streets. Ask locals for directions to the entrance near house number 86 on Hang Noi Street. The entrance fee is 10,000 VND per person.
The stone steps up the mountain are relatively easy to navigate, with green trees providing shade on both sides. As you climb higher, the sea breeze helps alleviate fatigue, giving you the feeling of exploring a pristine mountain. The higher you go, the more challenging the path becomes, but once you reach the top, you’ll find that your effort was well worth it.
Path up Bai Tho Mountain
At the top of Bai Tho Mountain, you will see the red flag with a yellow star fluttering proudly from the days of the anti-French resistance. A miner courageously climbed the mountain to plant the flag, calling for the indomitable spirit of the workers at that time. There is also a stone stele recording the history of this resilient mountain.
From the top, you will be amazed by the poetic and majestic scenery of Ha Long Bay. The vast blue sea, scattered with islands and rocky outcrops, is dotted with tiny boats and ships. The sky above is expansive, and the surroundings are filled with lush vegetation and the sound of birds singing, creating a truly peaceful atmosphere.
